National Road Heritage Museum

The National Road Heritage Museum, which opened in December of 2024, honors the nation’s first federal highway system, built with the intention to expand and populate America’s untamed west.  Winding its way directly through Boonsboro, the National Road paved the way for hundreds of thousands of immigrants, whose search for a better life spurred economic growth and helped unify our fledgling nation.

The museum is a dramatic place for discovery and imagination sparking a passion for American history.  Next door to the museum is the last standing Trolley Station Museum in Washington County (a successful project completed by the National Road Heritage Foundation).

For more information about the museum and photos of its progress, please visit the museum’s website.

The National Road Heritage Museum is open April to October on Saturday 10am – 4pm and Sunday 1pm – 4pm through the summer.

Winter Hours are from 10am – 3pm every Saturday.

It is also open by appointment when staffing allows by calling town hall at (301) 432-5141.
