2nd Class Engineman U.S. Coast Guard

Born in: Washington DC, 1938

Service military active duty: 1957 to 1959

Service in auxiliary: 1959 to 1965

Branch: Coast Guard

Basic training: Cape May, NJ

Stationed in: Curtis Bay, Baltimore, MD

Patrolled from: Newfoundland to Bermuda

 

Duty Details:

1st Duty Station: 4 months as a fireman at the Training Station firehouse

2nd Duty Station: 8 months aboard a 327ft Coast Guard Cutter patrolling the Atlantic Coast from newfoundland to Bermuda with stops at Newport, Rhode Island, Norfolk, Virginia and Jacksonville, Florida.

3rd Duty Station: 1 year at Curtis Bay Coast Guard station in Baltimore, Maryland.  Served on a 40ft patrol boat with 4 hour shifts patrolling the harbor.  Also boarded and inspected tankers and freighters coming in from European countries during the “Cold War” years.  Completed 4 hour shifts as a Shore Patrol, a military policeman in the habor area.

4th Duty Station: Stayed in the Coast Guard Reserves for the next six years.  Going to meetings once a month and two weeks of training per year at various Coast Guard sites.
