South County Historic Church Tour

The Boonsboro Historical Society hosts an annual tour of the historic churches in South Washington County, Maryland each December.   The tour includes a total of 17 churches located in Boonsboro, Keedysville and Sharpsburg.

Some of the churches have special music and refreshments for visitors.  A wonderful way to celebrate the holidays by touring these churches decorated for Christmas!

Boonsboro

  • First Christian – Holiday music and light refreshments
  • Trinity Evan. Lutheran – Chancel Choir from 2-3pm
  • Mt. Nebo United Methodist – Organ/piano selections, violin solos, We4 Flutes, tour of church celebrating 150 years. Refreshments.
  • St. James Catholic – Open for tour
  • Trinity Reformed UCC – Refreshments, Bell Choir at 4pm
  • St. Mark’s Episcopal – Guided tours of church/grounds. On the Nat’l Register of Historic Sites, African American. Historic Sites of Washington Co., and Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area.
  • Dahlgren Chapel – Closed

Keedysville

  • Salem United Methodist
  • St. Peter’s Evan. Lutheran – Light refreshments, historic pamphlet
  • Mt. Vernon Reformed UCC- Light refreshments

Sharpsburg

  • Dunker Church, Antietam Battlefield – Rangers provide historic info from 1-4 pm
  • Saint Paul’s Episcopal
  • Sharpsburg Church of the Brethren
  • Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church
  • Christ Reformed UCC – Light refreshments
  • Tolson’s Chapel – Light refreshments, tours from 1-4pm
  • Sharpsburg United Methodist and First Church of God – Closed

All participating churches will be open from 1-5pm, except where otherwise noted.
